BRANSFORD Golf Club seniors held two fun events towards the end of the year.

Roger Steade and Alan Wallcroft won a pairs strokeplay in a greensomes format with 69 points, just one ahead of Ian Hamilton and John Hunaban.

Tony Lee and Paul Edlin, Lee Dyment and John Knowles and Roy Williams and Martin Saunders all returned scores of 71.

Dave Miller and George Batty were two shots further back.

The annual Mike Kemp’s Escape from Christmas event was a stableford three-man team game.

Gerry Rebbeck, Peter Appleton and Roger Clark were the clear winners with 72 points.

They finished six ahead of Adrian Wood and Andy Falconer, whose third member was unable to play.

Harry Godwin, Rob Walker and Martin Saunders managed 65 along with June Atkinson, Malcolm Bradley and Rob Wetton.

John Phillips, Roger Steade and Pauline Wetton had 64 as did Bill Bowen, Ted Buckett and Andrew Jarvis.

After three rounds of the seniors’ winter stableford league, Mike Davidge leads the way in Division One (up to 21 handicap) with 102 points.

Godwin is second on 97 and Rebbeck third with 92.

Leading Division Two (22-36 handicap) is Edlin on 110, well ahead of Wallcroft on 92 and Knowles and Steade with 85.

The fourth round of the league will be on Monday, January 19.

When he took over the post in April, Bransford seniors’ captain Peter Harrison chose the Acorns Hospice as his charity to support.

Fundraising events and golf days have raised £1,306 and Harrison handed over the cheque at the hospice in Worcester.

He took along his putter and a few golf balls and popped into the hospice gardens with Mandie Fitzgerald, hospice community fundraising manager, for an impromptu putting lesson and session.

Fitzgerald’s first attempt went in and Harrison duly missed.
