UPTON Town put last week’s weather-enforced postponement behind them to thrash Newton 5-0 in Cheltenham Association League Division One with a hat-trick from Tom Morris.

Although the match wasn’t a classic, due to the heavy conditions, victory ensured Upton remain undefeated since September.

Town, who host AC Olympia tomorrow (2pm), opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a swift counter attack. Tom Crump played in Morris and the rapid winger ran through to score his first of the afternoon.

Just four minutes later, it was 2-0 when a cross from Crump was headed home by in-form striker Kristian Richardson for his eighth goal in five games.

Morris grabbed his second on the half-hour after being put through by Richardson, before clinching his hat-trick and his side’s fourth just before half-time, when he controlled and finished from yet another Crump assist.

Morris and substitute Luan Gashi both had efforts ruled out for offside in the second-half, while Darby made a smart save from close range to deny the visitors.

Paul Amott rifled in a fifth goal from 20 yards with two minutes remaining.

Crump hit the inside of the post with a long-range free-kick late on.

n Division One rivals Hanley Swan followed up two consecutive defeats with a 1-1 home draw against Kings.

The opening exchanges were even, but it was Hanley who went ahead early on when a good cross from the right was met by Ash Bloore who smashed the ball into the top corner.

Hanley played some good football but were unable to make the most of their opportunities.

Mid-way through the half, Kings equalised from the penalty spot.

The second-half saw the hosts continue to search for goals, with Andrew Smith in particular going close on several occasions.

Kings relied on the long ball and seemed happy to settle for a draw, defending in numbers.

Hanley were denied a good scoring opportunity when Cathal McTernan broke clear, only to be brought down by a defender, who was booked.

McTernan also hit the side netting late on but Hanley, who entertain RSG tomorrow, had to settle for a share of the spoils.

n Welland made it three wins from four matches in Division Three with a 3-1 victory over Falcon Reserves.

Played at Dyson Perrins’ 3G facility due to recent heavy rain, Welland were determined to get a result after their disappointing defeat at Dowty last time out.

As the half wore on, Welland created chances but strikers Omar Elmougy and Stacey Brimmell both struggled to hit the target.

The hosts continued to dominate after the break but were denied the lead by the woodwork, with Brimmell, Ben Pearson and Mark Taylor all thwarted.

Welland broke the deadlock when Dave Knapper fed Elmougy and he side-stepped a defender before firing home.

Elmougy doubled the advantage soon after before Brimmell’s good work on the left saw him find Stuart Wilkes who rounded the defender to slot in number three.

Falcons managed a late consolation.
