COLWALL and Malvern were beaten 3-1 at Shipton Oliffe in the West Club's Women's Hockey League Severn Division One.

The visitors, who only had 11 players with no replacements, did not get off to a good start by falling 1-0 down inside the first 10 minutes.

The first-half followed a similar pattern with Colwall and Malvern spending much of the time defending.

A 10-minute spell of pressure did result in chances for Katie Smith and Becky Lewis but they were unable to find the target.

However, the visitors did break the deadlock soon after through Sammie Shail to go in 1-1 at half-time.

Colwall and Malvern were again on the back foot in the second period, with Shipton adding two more goals to their tally.

Visiting keeper Jenny Shail made several fine saves to keep the score respectable but her teammates did not have enough in their legs to get back into the match.

n The seconds were beaten 2-0 at home by Painswick in Severn Division Three.

Despite losing 6-1 last time out, the hosts kept faith with their new formation.

Neddy Pritchard dominated the defensive midfield area, allowing Erica Abbey to push forward and initiate some strong attacking play.

Their young forwards and attacking midfielders also played some free flowing hockey.

Players supported each other and were unlucky not to score during their numerous visits to the opponent's 'D'.

Chloe Williamson put in a good display at sweeper, while her teammates marked to good effect.

Both of Painswick's goals came from short corner routines.
