COLWALL and Malvern were held 3-3 at home by lowly Cheltenham Civil Service in the West Clubs Women’s League Severn Division One.

The fifth-placed hosts got off to the worst possible start in torrential rain, conceding in the opening minutes from the first penalty corner.

But it was not long before Colwall and Malvern won a penalty corner, which was converted by Chey West.

Neat passing play between West, Georgia Hart and Becky Lewis kept them on the offensive and West soon scored her second from another penalty corner.

Despite continued pressure from Colwall and Malvern, they could not add to their lead and Cheltenham levelled midway through the first half.

However, West completed her hat-trick just before the break, slotting home after a fine passing move.

The rain continued to fall and the second period saw an open game with both teams looking to score at every opportunity.

But Cheltenham equalised after a period of continuous pressure resulted in a penalty stroke.

Despite ‘keeper Jen Shail’s best efforts, she could not keep the effort out as the visitors earned a deserved draw.

Colwall and Malvern head to bottom-of-the-table Shipton Oliffe tomorrow.

The Seconds lost 6-1 at home to their Blockley counterparts in Division Three.

But they successfully tried a new formation, scored a goal and played fine hockey to take away positives.

The goal came from Ellie Blanin as she surged past the defence and remained calm to slot the ball underneath the oncoming ‘keeper.

Strong inter-linking play between Chloe Williamson, Ruby Richards, Neddy Pritchard and debutant Lily Dean created the chance.

The Seconds host Painswick tomorrow.
