THE inaugural Tim Wilson Trophy was won by The Worcestershire Golf Club.

In the second instalment of the new bi-annual fixture between the Malvern Wells club and local rivals Bransford, a tight finish was almost guaranteed and so it proved.

Trailing 4-2 from the away match in May at Bransford, home advantage proved crucial as The Worcestershire overturned the deficit by winning 4½-1½.

They took the spoils 6½-5½ to win the trophy dedicated in memory of a much-loved and respected member of both clubs who died in 2011.

Former Bransford members Andy McCabe (handicap 5) and Phil Birch (6) won 4&3 against Mark Tipton (11) and Andy Kennedy (10).

Richard Sebok (6) and Andy Fleming (12) triumphed 2&1 over Pete Anthony (11) and Jim Maloney (17).

The ever-reliable pairing of Paul Wakely (10) and Gerald Bird (6) won 4&2 against Mitchell Fowles (10) and Adrian Bond (12).

The Worcestershire brothers Kevin (6) and Steve Carter (11) managed a hard-fought victory against the strong pairing of Bransford club captain Steve Bourne (12) and Stuart Crump (10).

Home pairing Peter Lupino (0) and Steve Bradshaw (7) were just edged out by Andrew Lammas (5) and Wayne Harris (13), losing one-down on the 18th.

With the result on a knife-edge, the real drama was to come as the match went to the last hole.

Dave Tucker (9) and Tom Howells (2) just managed to get over the line ahead of Dennis Atkins (16) and Graham Thomas (11).

Tucker played a fine chip to within inches of the hole to see out the match one-up and claim the team trophy. In a ladies’ 12-hole stableford, Jen Bishop won the Silver Division with 25 points, ahead of Cathy Harris and Pat Rose, both on 21.

Jane Poynder pipped Jenni Nions in the Bronze Division, just ahead of Betty Mitchell with Isobel Carmichael taking the Copper Division ahead of Zena Lloyd.
