9:52am Friday 18th January 2013 in Local
MALVERN Victoria edged an 11-goal thriller 6-5 at town rivals Anchor Falcons to progress in the Worcester and District League’s Southam Trophy.
Dave Jones grabbed the injury-time winner in the second round for lowerranked Victoria who are currently mid-table in Division Three.
Malvern Radar increased their lead at the top of Sunday Division One to six points with a 6-2 win over Kempsey as debutant Lee Hooper hit a hat-trick.
They maintained their 100 per cent record thanks to the success at Victoria Park with Jamie Caffull, Jack Mackintosh and Lee Mason also on target.
In Division Four, Worcester City Wanderers drew 1-1 against Powick Reserves with Bradley Smith and Stuart Harvey getting on the scoresheet respectively.
Josh Homans cracked a treble and Lewis Baker a double as Garibaldi thumped Leigh and Bransford Badgers 7-1 in Division Five.
A woeful defensive display across all areas of the pitch left Badgers 4-0 down at halftime although Nick Owen and Chris King helped limit the threat.
Changes were made at the start of the second period but the pattern of play continued to remain much in the home side’s favour.
However, in the 70th minute, wide midfielder Nick Medakovic burst forward only to be fouled 20 yards out and 16-year-old Rhys Turberfield curled in the resulting free-kick for a consolation goal.
Inter Express went down 2-1 at lowly Blue Star in Division Two, while the games for Callow End and Colwall St James were both postponed.
The race for the Saturday Division One title is hotting up with four teams in contention.
Reigning champions Powick moved to the top with a 5-4 success at Worcester Raiders thanks to Lee Barmby netting four of his side’s goals.
Anthony Smith and Homans both bagged two for Raiders.
Previous leaders Arrow 2000 went down 7-2 at Hallow, while Newtown Sports drew 2-2 with The Red Lion.
Ollie Garfield and Steve Jaye were on the scoresheet for Newtown and Scott Mackellar grabbed both Red Lion goals.
West Malvern won 4-2 at Foregate in Division Two with Adam Jones notching a double.
