Lush secures points in Welland’s fine triumph
12:10pm Friday 2nd March 2012 in Football
WELLAND maintained their Cheltenham League Division Five promotion challenge with a convincing 4-2 victory over Sherborne Harriers.
The hosts started brightly with repeated attempts on goal and the opener arrived on 20 minutes courtesy of a clearance from keeper Niall Hacking which Mark Holbrow guided into the net.
Sherborne responded and brought a stunning save from Hacking just before the half-time interval.
The loss of Rob Kelly to injury for the second-half unsettled Welland, who conceded two goals in quick succession before Lewis Dixon dropped into midfield and restored stability.
A James Lush corner was headed goalwards by Dixon and turned in by substitute Matt Tedds to make it 2-2.
Another pin-point Lush corner was met by Dixon’s head and the Welland lead was restored.
Dixon then hurled a long throw towards the far post and Lush nodded in to seal the points.
