A SUPERB strike from Arnie Fleck helped Ledbury Town Reserves claim a 2-0 victory at Fownhope Reserves in Herefordshire FA County League Division One.

Fleck found the top corner with a fine 25-yard effort before Sam Branch scored from close range.

Thomas Park produced a man-of-the-match display as Ledbury secured all three points on Tuesday night.

The victory also atoned for their 4-1 defeat to Ludlow Town Colts at New Street last Saturday.

Ledbury were severely depleted for their clash against Ludlow and were missing the guidance of player-manager Nick Blakeway.

But they showed early promise as a good effort from Nick Bolton forced a save from Ludlow’s keeper. Bolton continued to make his presence felt as he went close with a volley.

Mark Taylor also missed a couple of early chances before Ludlow scored against the run of play when they slipped the ball past stand-in stopper Matti Holder.

Colts almost grabbed a second when hesitancy from Holder resulted in the visitors firing narrowly wide.

Holder produced a brilliant diving save to deny Colts before Charlie White’s free-kick was nodded wide by Taylor. But an unfortunate slip in the muddy conditions from Alistair Holder allowed an opposing attacker to race in and slot home.

Things then went from bad to worse for the hosts as a free-kick lopped over Matti Holder’s head for Ludlow’s third on 38 minutes.

Former Ledbury first-team striker Tom Boyle was brought on at half-time and he made an immediate impact with a goal inside two minutes.

Fleck then had a 20-yard screamer ruled out for offside before Matti Holder performed another fine save.

Ledbury received a let-off when a poor challenge from Taylor led to a penalty which was struck against the bar.

But in the final 10 minutes a Colts striker outwitted Park twice before coolly putting the ball away.

Blakeway’s young side were scheduled to travel to Hinton Reserves last night.

Ledbury Town claimed a 1-0 victory at Leominster Town in the Premier Division last Saturday.

They were due to face Hinton last night before entertaining Tenbury Town at New Street tomorrow (2.30pm).
