WITH the recent bad weather again wiping out a complete day of football, many clubs are facing a fixture pile-up in the McDonald’s Worcester and District Sunday League.

Permission has been received from Worcestershire FA to extend the season to Sunday, May 27, but a substantial number of teams will need to play evening matches to complete their programmes.

Premier Division side Callow End probably face the biggest challenges as they still have an interest in five competitions.

Their first chance for silverware comes on Sunday when they face Harriers Trust in the final of the Worcestershire FA Sunday Premier Cup.

Callow End will be relying heavily on hot-shot Nick Macpherson who has netted 26 goals for them in all competitions to date.

Hallow are probably the only team who can prevent them from retaining their Premier Division title with the clubs still due to meet twice.

Hallow can call on their own goal twins in Kyle Belmonte and Malvern Town’s Kyonn Evans who have netted 42 between them to date.

Three or four teams could still lift the Division One crown with Clifton Rovers probably the favourites if they can win their games in hand.

Prince of Wales, St Johns, Fernhill Heath Athletic and Worcester Athletic are all waiting in the wings for any slip-ups.

Just one goal separates the leading four contenders for the divisional golden boot award with Mike Cox (Fernhill Heath), Josh Homans (Arrow), Adam Whitehead (Worcester Athletic) and Lewis Barson (Fernhill Heath) the names in the frame.

FC Korono have a seven-point lead at the top of Division Two with Eaton the only side who have a realistic chance of catching them.

Matt McClatchy, of Worcester City Wanderers, leads the race for the golden boot with Paul Jones, of Eaton, just one behind.

At one stage it looked like Malvern’s Express Falcons were running away with the Division Three championship.

But they have faltered in recent weeks, leaving the door open for both AFC Mazak and Masons to catch them.

Jack Martin has a two-goal advantage in the contest for individual honours over Callum Morris, of Lower Teme & Martley.

Joshua Beckett of Express and Martin Fowler (Perdiswell Colts) are a further two goals behind.

The race for the Division Four title is the closest in the league with no less than six teams in contention.

Colwall Wanderers’ recent 7-0 demolition of Spa Rovers probably puts them in pole position.

But Spa, Sebright Arms, Worcester Saints, Grosvenor Sports and Drakes Broughton Rangers Reserves still have an interest in honours.

Colwall’s ace in the pack is Ben Miller who has netted 25 goals in 13 appearances, one more than Darren Palmer, of Grosvenor Sports.
