MALVERN Town gained revenge for an FA Vase defeat earlier in the season with a 7-0 home thrashing of Smethwick in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

The leaders, defeated 4-1 last September by the Black Country side in the Vase, warmed up for a tough Tuesday night trip to Tividale with a clinical display at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

Town went two up after only 12 minutes against their bottom-half visitors.

In the third minute, Phil Harris played a long ball to Josh Hunt who took the ball over his shoulder and chipped the onrushing Connor Parish just before the keeper clattered him.

The ball ended up in the net and the keeper found himself booked.

Nine minutes later, a Malvern corner was played into the area and Dene Whittal-Williams’s header hit a defender but still found its way into the goal.

Smethwick's Joe Clarke hit a 24th-minute volley from around 35 yards and it was heading for the top corner until Josh King, in for the suspended Charlie Weaver, caught the shot.

Hunt and Matt Turner combined to work the ball into the area but the former’s shot went wide.

Kyonn Evans then weaved his way into the box and passed to Turner who from six yards blasted the ball over.

Malvern missed another opportunity in the second half when Parish could only parry Harris' long-range effort but Hunt fired the rebound over.

But Town made it three in the 59th minute and it opened the floodgates.

A Louis Loader free-kick appeared to take a deflection as it flew into the net.

Six minutes later, Hunt’s shot went just wide of the post.

But in the 73rd minute a free-kick was played to Evans who trapped the ball as he was running and fired home.

Two minutes later, Zaqib Hussain ran down the left and fired in a low cross which Parish pushed off his line.

However, in the 77th minute the ball was played for Turner to finish off a fifth goal.

Five minutes later, Harris played another fine ball to Lewis Platt who crossed for Turner and he supplied Chris Parker to find the net.

Hussain and Turner combined but the shot hit the post.

But in the 88th minute another corner was met by defender Whittal-Williams to get his second and Town’s seventh.

Malvern under 21s are at home to Leominster Town on Saturday in the Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division (2.30pm).

Sam Rathbone and Sam Hayes scored in a 2-0 win at Hereford Lads Club Reserves last weekend.
