Cheltenham League - Junior Charity Trophy

Hanley Swan 3 Shurdington Rovers 2

HANLEY Swan progressed to the semi-final of the Junior Charity Trophy with this win over Division One opponents Shurdington Rovers.

Rovers started strongly and forced the home keeper Dan Rawlings to make some good saves.

Hanley settled and Tom Morris had a good chance before James Holloway made a good run but was tripped in the box.

The resulting penalty was converted by the same player to give Hanley the lead.

Minutes later Rovers were awarded a controversial penalty but their centre-forward hit it against the bar.

Hanley had a couple of good chances with Luke Duffett, Holloway and Cathal McTernan going close.

Rovers also had their chances and were unlucky with an effort that hit the post.

Minutes before half-time they equalised when a free-kick was headed home.

Hanley hit back almost immediately with Kevin Moore on hand to slot the ball into the net.

The second half saw Hanley looking to increase their lead.

Morris had another good effort and centre-half Chris Bun forced the Rovers keeper to make a fine save.

Midway through the half Moore hit a low shot into the corner to put Hanley 3-1 up.

Rovers then pulled one back to set up a frantic final 15 minutes.

With Tom Crump and Adam Webb battling in midfield and Chris Aston in good form at the back, Hanley saw out the game to record a good win.

Hanley now don't have a game until Saturday, January 13, when they are at home to Andoversford Reserves (2pm).
