MALVERN St James Girls’ School are celebrating success in the Malvern district under 11s football tournament.
The competition at The Chase in the town saw 10 teams from nine schools compete for a place at the Worcestershire county finals in January.
Malvern St James fielded two sides drawn in different groups.
After impressing at both ends of the pitch against Castlemorton, Eldersfield Lawn, Martley and Rushwick, the A team topped their group with four wins and no goals conceded.
Susannah Watkins (2), Charlotte Brookes (2) and Hettie Smith were on target as they reached the final.
The B team were also unbeaten and kept four clean sheets against Great Malvern, Hanley Swan, Malvern Wells and Upton but narrowly missed out on winning their group.
Scorers were Lilia Mico, Grace Earp and Alex Brookes.
Their second-place finish earned a place in the third-fourth play-off match.
The nerve-racking final saw Malvern St James A beat group B winners Hanley Swan 1-0 with Charlotte Brookes scoring the only goal.
They were crowned district champions and will represent the area at the county championships.
The B team also won as Mico helped them defeat group A runners-up Rushwick to finish third overall.
