AN EARLY goal from Matthew Turner was enough to secure Malvern Town a 1-0 victory at Shifnal Town at West Midlands League Premier Division.

Turner struck on the fourth minute when he latched onto a wonderful pass before running into the box and finding the net.

Shifnal’s Harrison Barrett twice had a goal ruled out for offside before keeper Charlie Weaver made a stunning stop late on as Town claimed all three points.

After Turner’s opener, it took until the 31st minute before the next meaningful piece of action.

A Shifnal corner was partially cleared as far as Barrett who put the ball into the net only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.

After Weaver was quick of his line to make a save on the edge of the box, Barrett thought he had scored, but once again it was ruled out for offside.

Shifnal almost suffered a further blow seconds before the break, but Turner sent his shot over the bar.

In a lively start to the second half, Shifnal captain Adrian Jones shot straight at Weaver before Evans wasted two opportunities.

Chances continued to come Town’s way with an off-balance Turner firing wide and a Louis Loader effort hitting the side-netting.

With 14 minutes to go, Shifnal went close as a free-kick into the box was flicked on, but Weaver produced a wonderful save.

Strong winds prevented decent football from both teams and chances were few and far between, but Town did enough to clinch victory.

Malvern host Pegasus Juniors in the league on Saturday (3pm) before travelling to Dudley Town next Wednesday (7.45pm) in the Premier League Cup.
