HEREFORD striker Mike Symons knows he has a fight on his hands to try and get back in the team as he starts a two-game ban.

Symons picked up his second red card of the season against Farnborough last week, meaning he will miss Tuesday night's game against Tiverton and the FA Trophy encounter against Weymouth on Saturday.

"It's a competitive squad this season so everyone is fighting to get in," said Symons.

"Millsy has been doing what he has been doing for the last two seasons, scoring goals, and myself and Lance have been in and out.

"But the gaffer knows he can call on anyone to come in and play and if you get the opportunity, it's down to you to work hard and keep the shirt."

Symons said he didn't mean to foul Farnborough goalkeeper Matt Cafer that saw him pick up his second booking.

"There was no intention in the second tackle, we've both gone for the ball and he's got there slightly before me," said Symons.

"I have caught him but not very high.

"I've tried to get my legs out of the way in the last minute and the referee has made his decision.

"Maybe I should have pulled out, but in the heat of the moment it's very difficult.

"I've never been sent off in my career so to be sent off twice in the space of seven weeks is disappointing for me and I let the lads down."

Symons bounced back by coming off the bench to score Hereford's third goal in a 3-0 Evo-Stik South win against Kings Langley on Saturday.

Wet and windy conditions caused problems during the first half, but once Hereford opened the scoring five minutes before half time, there was no stopping them.

"We were shooting in the wind in the first half, but it was a good performance from the lads who had to dig in at times," added Symons.

"We got in front and it was all about going out in the second half, down the hill, and play like we know we can do and 3-0 was a deserved victory.

"We were disappointed with how the result went against Farnborough so it was massively important we put it right."

With conditions set to get worse over the winter months, Symons knows he may be called upon more often than not.

"When it's a bit windy and wet, it adds to my game a bit," he said.

"The next three or four months is a big part of the season , so hopefully we can keep the winning run going and at the end of the season, hopefully we will be top."

Hereford reverted back to a 4-4-2 formation, with Jamie Bird on the right hand side of midfield and Dara O'Shea and Jimmy Oates as right and left back respectively.

"We can change it with the personnel we've got and play different formations," said Symons.

"If we have to change it for certain teams or conditions, we can do that and it gives the gaffer a few things to consider."

After opening the scoring, Mills made it 2-0 two minutes after half time with Symons sealing the win six minutes from time.
