MALVERN Town take on a “dangerous” Smethwick side in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase at the HDanywhere Community Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

And manager Les Jones says he is desperate to go on a run in the competition after crashing out of the FA Cup.

Town suffered a 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Wolverhampton Casuals last month.

But Jones believes the extra preliminary round defeat has turned out to be a “blessing in disguise” as Town have won their last six games in West Midlands League Premier Division.

“It was a massive disappointment, but that maybe gave us the kick up the backside we needed,” Jones said.

“After our hammering in the FA Cup we really want to go through a few rounds in the FA Vase.

“We have got a difficult game against Smethwick who are one of these dangerous teams.

“We watched them last week and they are quite a good attacking team, so we have got to be at the top of our game.”

The winner will host either Bewdley Town or Rugby Town on Saturday, September 23.

Striker Kyonn Evans has followed in the footsteps of Nathan Hayward and Dave Reynolds in leaving Malvern to join Worcester City.
