TEENAGER George Hayes was delighted to make his FA Cup debut for Hereford in their 8-0 thrashing of Godalming Town.

The 17-year-old played just over half an hour last Saturday and impressed manager Pete Beadle.

"I found it a good opportunity," said Hayes, who added that he prefers playing out wide.

"The FA Cup is obviously massive, so it was good to get on and I enjoyed it.

"I felt confident confident coming on and it was nice to do that when we were in a good position.

"It's always a good turnout at Edgar Street, so it's nice to play in front of the fans.

"I will keep plugging away in training and working hard to see if I keep getting opportunities and I will take them.

Beadle said it was good to Hayes used to playing senior football in front of a big crows.

"I thought he did great in pre-season and he has come on leaps and bounds," said Beadle.

"For a 17-year-old to come on in front of 1,700 people and make his FA Cup debut was great for him.

"It's good for our future having young players coming through."

With players coming back soon, Beadle will look put Hayes and fellow UITC product Harry Franklin out on loan in order for them to get more minutes under their belts.
