A CEREBRAL palsy football team from Malvern travelled to Staffordshire to face players suffering from the same condition.

But Scott Tranmer, manager of Newtown Sports CP Football Club, is keen to see more disability teams set up in Worcestershire.

Newtown attended a cerebral palsy football festival last weekend at Keele University where they took on CP United of Manchester, Stoke City CP and Chaddy Park from Oldham. Tranmer said afterwards: “The team performed with energy, smiles and team work.

“They enjoy playing football so much and would love the opportunity to play more teams locally. There is a need for more disability teams in Worcestershire. We recently played Toros pan disability team from Hereford and we hope to continue building great friendships with them.

“Disability isn’t a barrier. Football is a sport for all and these children show all of us you can do anything you want.”

Oracle Environmental Experts donated funds for the team to buy a new kit made by Yournameonit. They got to wear it when they played on the floating pitch in Cardiff.

Tranmer added: “We are a very welcoming club and would love to have more junior players join us that have CP or acquired brain injuries.”
