MANAGER Les Jones admits he is still keen to bolster his Malvern Town squad as the new season looms.

Town are gearing up for their FA Cup extra preliminary round tie at Wolverhampton Casuals on Saturday, August 5.

Jones believes his side are “shaping up nicely” having recruited striker Kyonn Evans, forward Ben Evans, winger Dale Goddard and defenders Jay Saunston and Jake Wilcox.

But he felt they could benefit from the addition of “one or two” more new faces as he looks to start the 2017/18 campaign with a squad of up to 20 players.

“Our squad seems to be shaping up nicely,” Jones said.

“We are getting a good balance between getting more solid at the back and still being an attacking team.

“The new additions have looked really good and are settling into the squad.

“We are still looking for players, but it is a difficult time of year because not only do we need players that are good enough, but we need the right types of lads who can be integrated into the squad and buy into the club’s philosophy.

“Between now and the start of the season we may get another one or two on board.”

Malvern suffered a 4-3 defeat to Coventry Sphinx in an entertaining friendly at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

A brace from Matt Turner put Town 2-0 up before Ryan Hankin levelled things up with a double.

After a trialist gave Sphinx the lead, Turner completed his hat-trick. But the visitors sealed victory with a late Luke Downes strike.

Malvern, who face Westfields tonight (7.30pm), host Welsh side Cwmbran Celtic tomorrow (3pm) before completing their pre-season schedule with a trip to Pershore Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Town’s opening league fixtures have also been confirmed.

Jones’ men will begin their campaign with a visit to Bilston Town Community on Wednesday, August 9 before travelling to Wellington Amateurs on Saturday, August 12.

Malvern’s first home game is on Wednesday, August 16 when they entertain Wednesfield. This will be followed with a clash at Dudley Sports on Saturday, August 19 before hosting Wellington on Wednesday, August 23 and AFC Bridgnorth on Saturday, August 26.
