DEFENDER Jake Wilcox has become the latest player to boost Malvern Town’s ranks.

Wilcox made 15 appearances for Bromsgrove Sporting last term as they secured promotion from Midland League Division One.

Manager Les Jones described him as “the perfect player” for Town who have returned to training ahead of their West Midlands League Premier Division campaign. Jones said: “Jake is young, talented and hungry and that’s what we want, so we are delighted to get him on board.”

Wilcox’s arrival at Town follows the signings of striker Kyonn Evans, forward Ben Evans and defender Jay Sauntson Malvern play their first pre-season match on Tuesday at Bromyard Town (7.45pm).

“We will give the lads 45 minutes each against Bromyard, so we will be using it as a fitness exercise to replace a training session,” Jones said.

“We need to use the first two games for improving match fitness.”

He added: “We had a terrific turnout for training and we have got more to come. We want to go in with a stronger squad next season as it will be a demanding and physical league.”
