FORMER Hereford United striker Stuart Fleetwood believes Hereford FC won't have it their own way next season.

Fleetwood enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Weymouth last season, netting 17 goals in the Southern Premier League while on loan from Bath City.

He is now without a club after deciding the travelling was too far from his Gloucester home, while realising he won't get many game at Bath.

The 31-year-old – who had two spells at Hereford – says he always gets asked when he is coming back to Edgar Street, but he hasn't been offered anything.

"I say the same thing every time – I'm not in a position to choose where I play," said Fleetwood.

"There will always be interest, but it's still early days with contracts being sorted out at clubs.

"If something happens, then as with everything, I will consider it, but until that happens, I'm not in a position to say anything.

"I'm getting married in three weeks' time, so that will take priority and then I will think about football."

Fleetwood believes Hereford will need more experience in their team next season because they will come up against more organised teams.

"It all depends how they set up, but I don't think it will be a walk in the park for them," he said.

"It may take them two seasons to get out of it because there are more organised teams at that level.

"They will be one of the favourites because of their fan base and how the club is run, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't happen for them this year.

"It's been a massive learning curve for everyone there and the players have done so well to win two leagues back-to-back, so the fans need to stick with them and give them a chance if things don't go as well as they would like."

Fleetwood added that the Southern Premier was a better standard than he thought it would be.

"From mid-table upwards, there's some really good teams and when the pitches get bad, it becomes a level playing field," he said.

"It took me a couple of games to get going, but just before December I started playing upfront and we started to win."
