MANAGER Les Jones says he is looking forward to having “some selection headaches” ahead of Malvern Town’s “tough period” of fixtures.

Fourth-placed Malvern are preparing for six games in three weeks, starting at Willenhall Town in the West Midlands League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

But Jones says his side, who have won their last four games, have been boosted by the return of players.

Striker Bryan Craven, winger Lewis Platt, midfielder Nathan Hayward, wideman Max Kontic-Coveney and midfielder Paul Edwards are all back available while forward Matt Turner has served a suspension.

“We have got a lot of games coming up,” he said.

“We have three consecutive away games in midweek so over the next three weeks we will have six games to play.

“It is a tough period but we want it as we have got a quarter-final (at Wolverhampton Sporting Community in the League Cup on Tuesday) and a semi-final (against Stourport Swifts in the Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup) to look forward to.

“We are also in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup semi-final but we would rather be left in those competitions than be knocked out.

“We are getting most of our players back now and should be somewhere near getting a full squad available.

“There will be some selection headaches but those are the sorts of headaches you want.”

After beating Cradley Town 3-2 last Saturday Malvern were scheduled to face fifth-placed Wellington Town on Wednesday.

But the match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

“It was frustrating as it was an opportunity to go third and some way to cementing our place in the top four. If we had beaten Wellington we would have gone five points clear with two games in hand on them,” Jones said.

“It was a real disappointment.”

Town thrashed Willenhall 8-0 in November and have been scoring goals for fun in recent weeks.

But Jones insists they cannot take their 15th-placed opponents lightly.

“We have scored 14 goals in our last four games so we are back scoring and getting the right results as well,” Jones added.

“We have been caught on the counter on one or two occasions so that is an area we are looking at in training.

“But we are playing some very attacking football.

“Willenhall is always a tough place to go as it is a difficult pitch and they are a big, physical team but we are looking forward to it.”
