MALVERN Town were pegged back by hosts Birstall United in a 2-2 draw as their FA Vase second qualifying round tie went to a replay.

The two teams meet again tonight at the HDanywhere Community Stadium for the right to host former Conference North side Worksop Town in the first round (7.45pm).

Birstall won the toss and played with the wind behind them with Malvern making a nightmare start.

Keeper Elliott Shilliam's wind-assisted kick flew into the Town penalty area and Jamie Smith headed the ball past the advancing Charlie Weaver in the fifth minute.

The hosts continued to press and in the 10th minute Weaver made a good save to deny them another goal.

Malvern hit back with Lewis Platt's cross not getting a final touch before they equalised in the 18th minute.

Nathan Hughes headed in Platt's delivery from the left wing before Dave Reynolds blazed over six minutes later.

However, Malvern could have fallen behind again before half-time as Weaver twice saved them.

Town had the better moments in the second period, though, with Shilliam tipping Reynolds' effort onto the post five minutes in.

Platt got into a one-on-one situation but the keeper caught the ball.

The referee disallowed an effort for Malvern in the 66th minute when Shilliam spilled the ball into his own net under pressure from Reynolds and Bryan Craven following Weaver's big kick.

Craven struck the bar before Malvern took the lead for the first time on 74 minutes.

Hughes' shot from a left-wing cross was blocked and Reynolds buried the rebound to continue a prolific season so far in front of goal.

But the lead only lasted a minute as Sam Kee's effort from a left-wing cross was deflected into the net.

In extra-time, Malvern thought they had regained the lead but it was disallowed for offside.

Substitute Lee Hooper and Reynolds went close as Town had to settle for a replay.
