MALVERN Town continued their pursuit of third place in the West Midlands Football League Premier Division with an emphatic 4-1 win at mid-table Ellesmere Rangers.

Dave Reynolds scored twice in Shropshire and Malvern now most likely need to win their final two games if they are to overtake Haughmond and make the top three.

Les Jones' side play their final home league game of the season at the HDanywhere Community Stadium on Saturday when Stone Old Alleynians visit (3pm) before going to lowly Wellington Amateurs on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Malvern are four points behind Haughmond, who have completed their fixtures, but seven worse off on goal difference with Dudley Sports among the other teams challenging.

At Ellesmere, Reynolds went close in the eighth minute when his shot was gathered by keeper Joe Brown.

Five minutes later, a 30-yard shot from the same player was tipped onto the post by Brown.

The lively Lewis Platt then flew down the left and crossed for Reynolds, who was again denied.

Malvern took the lead in the 37th minute when Ben Hayes fired a low shot into the net from the right.

Four minutes later, Reynolds rounded the keeper and cut back in but fired wide from a tricky angle when a cross might have been better.

Dene Whittal-Williams headed just wide early in the second half.

Platt and Luke Corbett then combined for Hayes to shoot over before Brown pulled off an eye-catching save.

Malvern finally added a second goal on 70 minutes through a Reynolds penalty after Platt was fouled in the box.

Four minutes later, Ellesmere hit back when Will Twyford dispatched a volley into the net.

The hosts pursued an equaliser but Platt was denied in a one-on-one with Brown at the other end.

Four minutes from time, Corbett kept the ball in play and then was on the end of the eventual cross to nod home.

The ex-Worcester City forward was also involved in the final goal in injury-time after receiving a Matt Turner pass and setting up Reynolds for his second.

Meanwhile, the Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup finals will all be played at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

The Senior Cup is on Friday, May 13, between Malvern Town and Littleton (7.45pm).

The Minor Cup follows on Tuesday, May 17, involving Malvern Town under 18s and Bromsgrove Sporting under 18s (7.45pm).

Finally, Malvern Town under 21s meet their Stourport Swifts counterparts in the Junior Cup on Saturday, May 21 (3pm).
