LEDBURY Town entered the Herefordshire Football League Premier Division top five for the first time this season with a 3-1 win at Hinton on Tuesday.

Phil Preedy’s side, managed by assistant coach Adam McTear on the night, redeemed themselves after a disappointing 3-2 defeat at Tenbury United last weekend.

Youngster Ryan Jones fired home the opener for Ledbury after just four minutes.

Striker Dan Herbert put a missed penalty, which could have clawed them a point at Tenbury, behind him with a spectacular lob from the centre spot right after Hinton equalised on the half-hour.

Herbert followed up with a successful penalty around 20 minutes from time as he ended his goal drought.

Jones’ early goal came courtesy of returning player Dean Corbett who, despite being tackled by a defender, managed to get the ball to the young forward.

Herbert blasted the spot-kick in off the bar after substitute Nat Dunk was felled in the box.

Ledbury’s nine goals this season have been put away by seven different players.

They suffered their second defeat of the season in the loss at Tenbury after Herbert hit the bar with a late penalty.

Ledbury controlled much of the first period with midfielder Scott Roberts opening the scoring after just six minutes.

A Martin Loveridge free-kick made it 2-0 but Nick Stocker pulled a goal back for Tenbury on the stroke of half-time.

Ledbury then failed to stop two well-placed crosses in the space of three minutes, giving the hosts the two further goals they needed to secure the win.

Town’s scheduled first home game of the season against early leaders Wellington Reserves tomorrow has been postponed.

This is due to ongoing negotiations between the club and landowners Property Solutions Ltd over the future of the New Street ground.

Town hope to entertain third-placed Fownhope on Saturday, September 5 (2.30pm).

Meanwhile, Ledbury reserves, under the new management of Mitch Preedy, have a friendly at Welland tomorrow (3pm) after a 1-0 victory at Kingstone Rovers last weekend when Jamie Gladwin netted.

They hope to field new young signings Charlie Docherty, Charlie White, Harri John and Tom Trigg.

The second string start their Division Two campaign on Saturday, September 5, at Burghill (2.30pm).
