CHELTENHAM Association League Division Three leaders Welland beat Fintan 4-0 at Spitalfield.

The villagers produced an outstanding performance against a competitive visiting side.

Welland made several changes from the previous week’s 9-1 victory at Shurdington Rovers Reserves and it was clear from the outset they were intent on securing the win.

Jamie Harding twice went close to opening the scoring before Stacey Brimmell was fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded.

Stuart Wilkes stepped up and found the back of the net for a 1-0 half-time lead.

Welland began the second period knowing that, despite all their good play and possession, goals were needed to put the tie to bed.

Within minutes of the restart, Paul Edwards and James Lush combined and the former expertly lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper and into the net.

Brimmell made it 3-0 on the hour mark when some good play out wide saw Jon Williams cross for him to head home from 10 yards.

The scoring was completed in the final few minutes when substitute Omar Elmougy was brought down in the box following his powerful run.

The striker dusted himself off before firing the resultant spot-kick home for an excellent 4-0 victory over mid-table Fintan.

Welland, who are four points clear of Leckhampton Rovers at the top with two games in hand, visit third-placed Brockworth Albion Reserves tomorrow.
