MALVERN Town outplayed West Midlands League Premier Division leaders Bridgnorth but lost 2-0 to breakaway goals.

The hosts, with five players suspended and others unavailable, still managed to dominate the HDanywhere Community Stadium encounter.

Dave Reynolds whipped in a fine early cross that was not finished off before the on-loan Luke Corbett had a 10th-minute effort disallowed for offside.

Former Cheltenham forward Corbett has joined Town from Stourport Swifts as he recovers from knee cartilage problems.

But he was still to find his scoring touch after miscuing Reynolds' pass in the 15th minute.

Ben Hayes' cross rolled across the face of goal before the same player was denied by Kevin Buxton's sliding tackle.

But Bridgnorth scored with their first serious attack on 32 minutes.

Liam Armstrong hit a wonderful looping effort into the top corner of the net.

In the 35th minute, Reynolds turned but fired but straight at the keeper Chris Crook.

He then shot just wide as Malvern continued to boss possession without scoring.

Hayes saw his shot held by Crook in the second period and then his cross-shot grazed the bar in the 65th minutes.

Jack Cullity burst into the box from the wing six minutes from time but Crook was again able to grab the ball.

It was Town's final chance as Armstrong scored with the final kick of the game well into injury-time but Bridgnorth's 2-0 victory did not reflect Malvern’s performance.

Sixth-placed Malvern visit basement boys Wolverhampton Sporting Community in the league on Saturday (3pm).
