UPTON Town finished 2014 on a high with a fightback from two down to win 3-2 at Falcons in Cheltenham Association League Division One.

Town sit fifth in the table after a satisfying end to a difficult first half of the season.

Players arrived late against Falcons and the football was not up to standard on a poor pitch.

Town had the best efforts, with Simon Craddock heading inches wide and Tom Crump going close, but Falcons went ahead on the counter-attack in the 45th minute.

Upton were given a much-needed talking-to rocket at half-time in their team talk, but conceded a second goal five minutes after the restart.

Player-manager Craddock made changes and Town took control, with Matt Hindmarsh and debutant Zach Blood bossing midfield.

Town pulled one back when Luan Gashi’s effort was saved and the ball was tapped in by Will Radnor.

Kris Richardson equalised with a 25-yarder, before keeper Chris Darby saved from close range at the other end.

But Upton secured the win when Blood made a late run into the box and netted with a fine half-volley.

Richardson had a one-on-one saved and Falcons hit the post in a nervy ending.

Ashley Bloore scored as Hanley Swan drew 1-1 at fellow strugglers Newton, but James Rimell was sent off.

Welland went top of Division Three with a 2-0 win at Charlton Rovers Reserves.

The villagers started well, controlling possession and looking solid in defence.

Early efforts from Mark Taylor, Paul Edwards and Omar Elmougy saw an in-form keeper make numerous saves.

Dave Knapper finally beat him, only to be flagged offside.

The second-half was a similar story to the first, with returning Welland keeper Niall Hacking rarely troubled.

The opening goal arrived when good work down the left saw Jamie Harding and James Lush combine.

The latter found Edwards on the edge of the box and he fired his shot past the keeper with the help of a deflection.

Elmougy then almost doubled the scoreline moments later, hitting the post after good work by Knapper.

Welland sealed the win when Lush crossed for Knapper to finish from close range.

Division Six leaders Malvern Vale beat Prestbury Rovers Reserves 5-1, with Daniel Stowe (3), Aaron Griffiths and Jacob Hooper getting on the scoresheet.
