MALVERN Town secured their first win since September 2 with a 1-0 home success over Wolverhampton Sporting Community.

The West Midlands League Premier Division side also saw influential forward Bryan Craven come on as substitute for the final 15 minutes in his return from injury.

Dave Reynolds turned and shot straight at keeper Samuel Benton in the opening minute at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

James Lush also fired at Benton from Matt Turner’s cross before Daniel Grime grazed the bar with a cross-shot at the other end.

Malvern continued to attack with Chris Allen’s shot hitting an offside Reynolds and then the post, while Sam Rathbone curled a first-time effort just wide.

A Rathbone chance landed on top of the net and Kirk Layton fired wide two minutes before half-time. Town dominated the second period but many shots were off-target or crossed failed to get a decisive touch.

Turner saw two efforts go wide with Rathbone, Reynolds and defender Dene Whittal-Williams, recently signed from Westfields, also going close.

Benton could only parry Layton’s 35-yarder on 74 minutes but recovered before Dan Herbert could pounce.

Town keeper Charles Weaver superbly denied the visitors five minutes from time in a one-on-one with Roman Gayle.

However, Turner finally bagged the only goal on 88 minutes at the second attempt from an acute angle.

Meanwhile, nine-man Bromyard Town crashed to their first defeat of the Division One season, ending a six-match winning streak.

The leaders had Luke Molloy and Aston Gunter sent off in their 1-0 home loss to promoted Ludlow. Bromyard visit Trysull on Saturday (3pm).
