LEDBURY Town helped their West Midlands Football League Division One relegation battle with a 6-1 thrashing of Gornal Athletic Reserves at New Street.
Paul Mann’s side could have reached double figures, with plenty of missed chances alongside five second-half goals.
Jamie Welch completed his hat-trick late on, following a stunning free-kick by Joel Skyers 10 minutes beforehand.
Gornal went ahead in the 18th minute as the speedy Ben Johnson fired home.
But Ledbury responded 10 minutes later, when a superb Dan Herbert pass enabled Welch to volley into the net.
Welch netted his second goal in the 48th minute before Tom Boyle ended a superb run with a fine finish soon after.
Herbert headed in a corner in the 57th minute before plenty of missed chances. But Skyers netted with his 30-yard free-kick and Welch sealed his treble.
Ledbury then lost 4-2 in midweek to Mahal, who moved off the foot of the table, but Town should finish fourth-from-bottom at worst.
Meanwhile, Ledbury’s 2-1 win at Malvern Town last week booked a Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup semi-final spot. Skyers and Welch scored.
