LEDBURY Town launched a stunning second-half comeback to bag a point after being 4-0 down at Mahal in West Midlands Football League Division One.

Jamie Welch, Dan Herbert, Dean Corbett and Curt Williams all contributed to a stunning recovery and 4-4 draw after lowly Mahal led comfortably at half-time.

Although the point could not lift Paul Mann’s side from 10th position in the table, they now have three consecutive home fixtures, beginning with mid-table Stone Old Alleynians at New Street tomorrow (3pm).

Meanwhile, Ledbury’s reserves lost 4-2 at Weston after extra-time in the Herefordshire FA Burghill Cup second round.

Karl Lancett’s understaffed side, with Nick Bolton being the only substitute, allowed their opponents to take the win despite being 2-0 up for 40 minutes. Zeki Koral and Adam McTear both netted during a strong first period from the visitors.

Koral’s goal came after just 10 minutes and McTear put his side firmly in the driving seat by firing home a penalty in the 25th minute after being brought down by the keeper.

The Weston goalkeeper redeemed himself with a fine save from Koral before stand-in Ledbury custodian Carl Wildig pulled off a superb stop at the other end.

Nicky Welch struck the ball just wide before the veteran was foiled by the defence after Koral’s fine run.

The second period began with Welch’s shot being met by another solid save from the home keeper.

A Welch corner hit the wrong side of the back of the netting before a superb Koral strike sailed narrowly wide.

However, the hosts began their recovery by slipping the ball past Wildig in the 67th minute.

After Wildig pushed a shot from the wing onto the bar, Weston equalised on 78 minutes by heading the ball into the bottom corner.

Ledbury, beaten after extra-time and penalties by Holme Lacy in the Jock Handley Cup only a fortnight earlier, needed another halfan- hour after Welch and Rodney Hathaway could not grab a late winner.

Weston netted from a fine cross and shot in extra-time before adding a fourth goal by the end of the first-half.

Player-manager Lancett took over the keeper’s jersey and made several late saves as Ledbury bowed out.
