Victoria make superb start

MALVERN Victoria opened their McDonald’s Worcester and District League Sunday Division Two season with a 3-1 home win over local rivals Malvern Rangers.
They attacked straight from the kick-off at Malvern Town’s Langland Stadium and were rewarded with Stacey Brimmell’s 63-second opener.
Victoria kept the ball well in the early stages but Rangers played their way back into the game with both teams creating chances.
After half-time, Rangers were unlucky not to take advantage of Victoria’s early struggles until Jamie Smith netted a free header from a corner to level.
However, the hosts showed determination and spirit in an end-to-end encounter, regaining the lead 15 minutes from time through Brimmell’s 15- yard shot across the keeper.
With Rangers pushing forward for another equaliser, Victoria broke down the left and Les Brown slotted home to complete the scoring 10 minutes from time.
