WELLAND stepped up their Cheltenham Association League Division Four promotion bid with a 4-0 win over Cheltenham Civil Service thirds.

The hosts were rewarded for a bright start on 20 minutes when Danny Gatenby found Lewis Dixon who poked home from close range.

Soon after, the pair combined to make it 2-0 with Gatenby crossing for Dixon to unleash an unstoppable 15-yard volley.

On the stroke of half-time, the Cheltenham keeper suffered a suspected broken ankle, causing a long delay while an ambulance arrived.

Both teams were slow to settle afterwards before Dixon latched onto a through-ball from Andy Brannelly to complete his hat-trick from the edge of box.

Welland keeper Niall Hacking was rarely troubled and his kick was flicked on by Adam Morse for Mark Taylor whose cross was coolly headed home by Rob Perrins to complete their tally.
