Struggling Colwall in a further poor reverse

COLWALL need improved performances to pull clear of the Worcestershire League Division One relegation zone after a 152- run home thrashing by Redditch.

The Stowe Lane hosts won the toss and elected to bowl on an overcast day but were left chasing 287-7 after a fine Redditch effort, highlighted by Russell Southwick’s 68.

Dylan Marshall (4-76) and Jon Hunter (2-62) took regular wickets to ensure the target from 50 overs was not even higher.

However, second-from-bottom Colwall’s batting failed to get even close, finishing on 137 all out in just 29 overs.

Captain James Abel consolidated the innings before getting trapped lbw on 41 to Aidan Andrews (5-54).

Colwall lost their last seven wickets for just 79 runs with Russell Boatman’s 35 from 13 balls being the only innings of note.

Colwall seconds (144 all out) suffered a 131-run defeat to Belbroughton (275-7) in Worcestershire League Division One (Second XI) at Hackman’s Gate.
