Barnards Green 340-3, St Georges 80 all out.

BARNARDS Green finished runners-up in Birmingham and District League Division Three after a 260-run victory over St George’s in their final game of the season.

Batting first, the Green lost Mark Hooper for 14 to an lbw decision.

But Adam Dovey and Phil Harris shared a partnership of 255 for the second wicket, displaying complete dominance over the home side’s attack.

Harris continued his rich vain of form in reaching a cultured 181 off 130 balls with shots all around the park and several out of the ground.

His innings that combined subtlety and power to similar devastating effect.

He was accompanied throughout by the more restrained Dovey, who, once Harris departed, reached a maiden Birmingham League hundred, finishing undefeated on 106 from 136 balls.

Aided by a quick-fire 25 from Kyle Golder, the Green finished on 340-3.

St Georges’ reply began in the worst possible way as Kiwi Matt McEwan removed their opener with a rapid full length first delivery.

This was to be the start of a fiery spell from McEwan who tore through the top order to finish with a season’s best of 7-43, including a hat-trick. Harris ended with 3-27, as St Georges were bowled out for 80.
