Parker gets five-wicket haul in side’s success

West Malvern 185-5, Rushwick 63 all out.

WEST Malvern Sunday XI continued their impressive winning run with an excellent 122-run victory over Rushwick.

Having won the toss, Wests took first use of a dry wicket that threatened to cause difficulties in the second innings.

Veteran openers Tony Williams and Brian Pleass, batting together for the first time for two seasons, started steadily against the pace of James Webster and Ryan Sneddon.

They took the score to 69 in 17 overs before Pleass (24) mistimed a pull back to change bowler Dan Hughes.

Ryan Lane bowled with determination against his old team- mate Williams, clipping his leg stump when he had reached a well-constructed 38.

Tom Taylor and Phil Chaundy took the score on to 116 when, after striking a glorious extra cover drive to the boundary ,Taylor played around a straight ball from Parker to be bowled for 15.

Chaundy (33) dominated a partnership of 35 with Bill Wood until he was stumped by Joe Blight.

When Wood was bowled by Richardson (2-18), West Malvern had reached 145 with six overs remaining. Much depended on Stuart Jones and skipper Kevin Gilbert to post a competitive total.

The pair duly put on 40 invaluable runs with smart running and a few lusty blows. Gilbert finished on 24 and Jones undefeated on 15.

The Rushwick innings crashed to 63 all out with Parker grabbing his first-ever five-wicket haul for just 21 runs.
