ALEX Basford shone with bat and ball as Martley cantered to a seven-wicket win over bottom club Malvern at Jewry Field in Worcestershire League Division Three.

Dan Johnson and James Edwards took a wicket apiece as Martley scored just 25 runs in 13 overs.

Ollie Dunks and James Ganderton also chipped in with wickets before Basford tidied up the tail as Malvern were bowled out for 172.

Martley's reply got off to a poor start when Ganderton middled a full toss to mid-wicket but Basford and Dom Jones put on more than 100 for the second wicket.

Martley seconds also defeated Malvern who totalled a turgid 116 off 45 overs at Regency Road.

Si Butler (3-20), Jai Wickham (2-22) and Max Houchin (2-19) took the wickets.

Jim Basford got the reply off to a brisk start with 38 only for Martley to slip from 60-2 to 75-7. But father and son Simon and Tom Butler put on 38 to see Martley home.
