A MUCH-improved all-round display saw Colwall register a comfortable seven-wicket victory at Burghill, Tillington and Weobley in Worcestershire League Division One.

In a contest reduced to 36 overs per side due to rain, Colwall’s bowlers stuck to their task to dismiss their bottom-of-the-table hosts for just 127 off 29 overs.

Then solid batting from Ben Febery and Nick Brown saw the target chased down with four overs in hand.

Colwall skipper Ben Cooke asked Burghill to bat on a damp pitch and although Ben Owen (34) gave them a promising start two wickets for the accurate pace of Mike Gooch kept them in check.

Phil Richardson came on to take 3-22 in five overs to leave Burghill struggling at 58-5 and although Owen Morgan (21) and James Mady (27) rallied once they were gone Colwall broke through again.

James Febery finished with 4-26, including three victims in his final over, while Nick Brown also took a wicket as Burghill sank to 127 all out.

Cooke, moving up to open the innings, was caught for eight but then Brown and Ben Febery shared a decisive half-century stand to leave victory in sight before the latter was bowled for a solid 41.

Fergus Cameron was bowled for three but Brown reached a valuable unbeaten 51 and with Ben Wheeler also unbeaten on 20 Colwall won in the 32nd over.

They host Feckenham on Saturday (1pm).

With both the second and fourth team matches cancelled, the thirds lost by seven wickets at Glangrwyney in Marches League Division Two.

Put in on a wet pitch, Colwall lost two early wickets before a half-century stand between the club’s oldest and youngest players in Dick Tugwell and Luke Recorden, 12, bridged a 58-year age gap to launch a recovery.

Recorden hit the ball firmly in making 20 before he was bowled while Tugwell reached 40 before he fell in similar fashion.

Although Ali Martin added a lusty 22, the tail proved fragile as Colwall slipped to 126 all out with five overs remaining.

Home opener Gethin Price cut loose with powerful hitting to slam an unbeaten 81 after tea and although Steve Wright took two wickets and Bruno Recorden one the target was passed in the 21st over.
