WORCESTER Nomads were beaten for the first time this season as they slumped to a 129-run defeat to Chaddesley Corbett in Worcestershire League Division One.

They were not helped by injuries to bowlers Patrick O’Driscoll and Ben Schiffmann as the visitors took full advantage to post 256-7.

Ollie Ranscombe (72) provided some resistance in response but Oliver Scurry (11) and Josh Hawes (12) were the only other batsmen to hit double figures as Nomads were shot out for 127.

After winning the toss, Chaddesley had little hesitation in choosing to bat first on a flat surface.

But they suffered a couple of early setbacks as Mohammad Sajid was out to the first ball with David White taking a super diving catch off O’Driscoll before Waqur Ahmad was holed out off Schiffmann.

The double blow left Chaddesley on 8-2, but they recovered to take the score past 50 when the first drinks break arrived as Nomads were forced to replace O’Driscoll due to injury.

Waqas Ahmed (42) who had looked in great touch was then stumped after pushing forward to Schiffmann.

With the score at 77, the visitors lost their fourth wicket when Sakib Ali was bowled by a beauty from Schiffmann (3-47).

However Nomads’ skipper was clearly in pain from an injury and was unable to continue bowling after receiving treatment.

With bowling resources diminished the visiting batmen were able to claim some initiative and added a 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Blair Hussan and Zeeshan Ahmed.

The momentum then appeared to swing Nomads’ way as Hawes trapped Hussan (74) leg before and Guy Davies dismissed Waqas Ahmed.

Batting at number eight, Chris Mole came to the crease with the score at 191 before producing a defining spell in the innings. He smashed a quick-fire 55 not out from just 30 balls as Chaddesley took control.

The brutality of the last few overs in the field seemed to take its toll as Davies was out to the first ball, driving around a full pitched delivery.

He was soon joined by Scurry who tamely spooned a catch to short mid-wicket.

The in-form pairing of White and Ranscombe then set about building a partnership to rival that of the previous match.

That promise was quickly evaporated when White chased a wide half-volley and was caught at second slip.

Jamie Oliver, Derek Austin and Steve Emson were also dismissed to leave the home run chase in tatters at 56-6.

With others faltering at the other end, Ranscombe tried in vain to shepherd the tail to at least bring some respectability to the score and was the last man out.
