MIKE Gooch tore through a flimsy Pedmore batting line-up as Colwall romped to a massive 152-run victory over Pedmore at Stowe Lane.

The in-form paceman claimed startling figures of 6-11 as the visitors were blasted out for just 39 in an innings that contained eight ducks.

Colwall’s first win of the season which was also secured by a determined batting display lifted them off the bottom of the Worcestershire League Division One as they prepare for Saturday's visit to Stourport (1pm).

Put in to bat Colwall made an erratic start as Nick Brown was bowled in the third over before Idris Mohammed hit three fours and a six in a breezy 22 when he was dismissed.

Home captain Ben Cooke was then bowled without scoring, but Colwall were bolstered by a solid stand between Fergus Cameron and newcomer Richard Howatt before the latter fell for 47, including two sixes.

Ben Febery hit 23 in partnership with Cameron who was dismissed for a valuable 48 and with James Wagstaffe adding a lusty 18 the tail took the final total to 191-9.

Jonathan Heardman took 5-59 in an accurate 17-over spell for Pedmore.

Any Colwall fears that their score might not be enough were quickly dismissed after tea as Gooch and Jack Knight-Adams sent back both openers without scoring.

They then proceeded to demolish the middle order as Pedmore slumped to 15-6.

Gooch made the initial breakthrough before Knight Adams (3-19) claimed the next three wickets including two in an over.

Gooch proved unplayable as a series of batsmen came and went without troubling the scorer.

Heardman managed 10 runs as partners departed one after another and James Burgoyne resisted firmly in the lower order with an unbeaten 15.

But they were the only Pedmore batsmen to score, with 14 wides taking the final total to 39, before Cooke took an alert slip catch off Cameron to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, Colwall seconds recorded a crushing 10-wicket win at Pedmore after dismissing the home side for just 92.

Put in to bat, Pedmore made a slow start with Ash Jones unlucky to emerge wicketless from an accurate opening spell.

But once the breakthrough was made, seamers Steve Coffey, returning to Colwall ranks after a lengthy absence, and newcomer Phil Richardson held sway, claiming four wickets apiece.

Colwall openers Ali Pearce (59 not out) and John Card (32 not out) knocked off the runs with the minimum of fuss to seal a 20-point haul.

Seamer Harry Evans took the bowling honours for Colwall fourths as they began their Marches League campaign with a six-wicket win at Woolhope seconds.

Put in to bat, the hosts reached 32 before Evans broke through and quickly added four more, all clean bowled to finish with a superb 5-7 return from his eight over spell.

Woolhope briefly recovered before Dick Tugwell (2-9) and Alex Whitaker (2-12) polished off the tail with the total on 92.

Colwall lost Chris Conlon cheaply in reply, but newcomer Tom Hall (41) and Adam Greaves (40 not out) ensured that victory was sealed with 15 overs in hand.
