WEST Malvern beat Worcester Nomads C to the runners-up spot in Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division Two.

The Bransford side, having already lost their title of succeeding years, saw only Sam Jones survive long enough to retire in their 105-4.

There were run-outs caused by hesitation and crucially Malcolm Jones was well stumped by Kevin Gilbert for 12.

Reg Dixon (18) and Andy Hill (14) helped Nomads past the 100 mark but history suggested this was not going to be enough.

West began their innings circumspectly and lost Glen Collins (24) with the score on 53 at the halfway point, exactly on target.

Following Gilbert’s retirement, Matt Penkoks (25 not out) and Ben Tanner (13no), aided by 16 in wides in two overs, powered on to win with an over to spare on 108-1.

The final weeks of the indoor season were notable for teams failing to fulfil fixtures.

Old Vigornians’ game was conceded as Malvern B gained their rather unsatisfactory first points.
