Rain denies bid for revenge

MALVERN III v WORCESTER NOMADS III

MALVERN Thirds entertained Nomads Thirds for the second time, after their Broadwas pitch was deemed unplayable, and were determined to seek revenge for the defeat they suffered three weeks ago.

Nomads found runs hard to come by partly due to the length of the outfield, but also due to some spirited fielding and accurate bowling from Malvern. Bland was first to depart, run out by a direct throw from Max White when looking for two.

Wickets then fell steadily with two apiece for Croft, Sharp and skipper Charlie Heritage who picked up two caught and bowled in one over. At 47-6 Nomads were struggling but a quickfire 44 from Nick Williams allowed them to reach 121 before being all out in the 39th over, Evans taking the final two wickets.

Needing 122 off 51 overs Malvern made slow progress due to a good Nomads attack, Goodreds notably pinning them down with figures of 7-2 off 12. However, Malvern always kept up with the necessary run rate, Max White (21) and Ray Evans (33) being the pick of the batting. At 98-6 off 38 overs Malvern required 24 more runs off 12 overs.

But then the rain came and no more play was possible. Back in the clubhouse, after much calculation it transpired that Malvern had only gained a losing draw and the lion's share of the points went to Nomads.
