THE Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester competition started for another season with 10-run wins for both Martley and West Malvern.

Division Two opened at Royal Grammar School Worcester with Martley (117-4) beating Rushwick (107-4) by 10 runs despite playing with only five men.

Ian Flower (22), Simon van Tongeron (26 no) and James Ganderton (40) starred with the bat.

Rushwick's reply was hit by two early wickets but Chris Davies (25) and Richard Bull (30) moved them to 98-2 as they looked likely winners.

However, with the retirement of Bull at the end of the 10th over the game changed and Rushwick fell short by 10 runs.

West Malvern (95-5) beat OVs (85 all out) by 10 runs in an interesting encounter.

The villagers were reduced to 5-2 after the first over and hit back only for Eliot Turner to bowl Pete O’Donnell (11).

West were on 40-3 at the midway point and after opener Matt Penkoks (18) was caught in the 11th over not much had improved.

Rowan Dakin (29 not out) ended unbeaten after the allotted 12 overs with the score on 95 thanks to 32 wides from OVs although Phil Mackie took 3-21.

OVs sensed an opportunity but after four overs lost two key wickets for 31.

George Haywood-Meek (27) and Chris Drew (21) looked well set until three wickets went within four balls on 79 with the last man falling at 85.
