BARNARDS Green failed to capitalise on a good start as they lost by 67 runs to Attock at North End Lane in Birmingham League Division One.

With Jack Cullity (4-48) on form, Attock were struggling on 74-7, but crucially the tail wagged as they finished on 188 all out before bowling Green out for 121.

After putting Attock in to bat, Cullity made a double breakthrough in his second over as Rawait Khan (2) was caught by Blair Kingsland and Sarmad Bhatti holed out to Will Dovey.

Mohammed Qamar Khan and Arsalaan Mahmood took the score to 41 before Phil Harris got the latter out lbw for 25 and Cullity dismissed Aarib Khan who flicked on to Harris.

Green then took three wickets in four overs. Harris had Asim Khan (6) caught by Andy Ford and clean bowled Mohammed Nadeem for a duck before Cullity took the key wicket of Mohammed Qamar Khan, lbw for 40.

Usama Khan and Mohin Khan got Attock back in the game with a 53-run partnership. After Mohin Khan (38) was caught by Cullity off Kingsland, Safraz Ali (37) went on the attack, hitting four fours and two sixes.

His ninth wicket stand with Usama Khan was worth 59 runs. Ali fell lbw to Ford before Haaris Khan was caught and bowled by Kingsland.

In reply, Green start confidently with Andy Ford getting off the mark with a huge six before holing out to Bhatti. Ryan Tongue’s first three scoring shots were boundaries as his side reached 30 in the 10th over.

Will Dovey was next to fall, clean bowled by Haaris Khan who then got his third wicket when Dannie Rees (22) was caught by Asim Khan.

Green were in a decent position at 60-3. but they couldn’t establish a partnership as Tongue (37) was caught and they were soon down to 87-6, with Josh White and Oli Swift both holing out. The run rate was not an issue as Harris and Stewart Hepbury took the score beyond 100, but the wickets were. Harris (17) was run out and Ash Brewer was clean bowled first ball by Nadeem to leave them on 103-8.

And there was to be no late rally as Cullity (7) was trapped lbw by Nadeem and Blair Kingsland (0) was caught one-handed by Usama Khan.

Green visit Wellington on Saturday (noon).
