STRUGGLING Worcester Nomads picked up a vital win over Brewood to drag the Staffordshire side into the Birmingham Cricket League Division Three bottom four.

Nomads secured their third victory of the season with a three-wicket success to retain a faint chance of avoiding relegation.

But the Bransford side remain 52 points away from safety, 20 ahead of Nuneaton.

Dave Wedge (54) and Sam Flavell (43) scored the bulk of the runs in Brewood’s total of 158 with Ben Schiffmann (4-28) proving to be the pick of the bowlers.

James Lunn (4-43) made Nomads fight for their victory but 46 from opening batsman Trevor Keen, who was seventh out at 130, anchored the innings before a late flurry from Anders Wilson (39 not out) saw them over the line.

Astwood Bank trail leaders Lichfield by eight points after their match against Newport was abandoned after 47.3 overs with the village hosts on 134-9.

Struggling Kidderminster lost by 114 runs at second-placed Shrewsbury in the Premier Division.

Worcestershire's Oliver Westbury (51), Tim Ward (48), Will Parton (44) and Ben Stebbings (40) helped Shrewsbury to 234-9 with Neil Pinner taking 4-45 and Liam Weston picking up 3-44.

The visitors, batting with 10 men only, crumbled to 120-9 and the resounding defeat kept them in the bottom two.

Opening bowlers Michael Barnard (5-18) and Worcestershire's Dillon Pennington (4-19) combined to take all nine Kidderminster wickets to fall.

Berkswell’s home game with Ombersley was abandoned with the visitors on 147-8 from 43 overs.

Jack Haynes top scored with 42 but the highlight was a hat-trick from former Warwickshire skipper Darren Maddy who finished with 4-30 from 13 overs.

The match between West Bromwich Dartmouth and Brockhampton was abandoned with the Herefordshire side on 63-1 in response to 308-7.

Barnt Green had reached 201-4 from 42 overs at Kenilworth Wardens when the game was called to a halt.

Amit John (83), Rawlston Tappin (68) and Abid Ali (55) registered half-centuries for Dartmouth with Brockhampton’s Dominic Badger picking up 4-117 from 17 expensive overs.

Barnt Green's Tom Brown top scored with 70 and Ed Pollock hit 55.

Bromsgrove are handily placed to make a serious challenge for Division One promotion after they defeated Tamworth by seven wickets at St Godwald’s Park.

Ashley Newfield (4-13) and Gareth Williams (4-23) were the chief destroyers as Tamworth were shot out for 132.

The total proved well within the home side’s reach as Alexei Kervezee hit nine fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 71 during an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 101 with Lewis Cordes (27 not out).

At the bottom of the table Attock closed the gap on the two teams above them with a 67-run victory at Barnards Green who folded to 121 all out in pursuit of 188.

Qamar Khan top scored for Attock with 40 but the late order of Mohin Khan (38), Sarfraz Ali (37) and Usama Khan (33no) helped them recover from 74-7 after Qamar Khan was dismissed.

Jack Cullity took 4-48 and Phil Harris took 3-50 for Green who were bowled out by Mohammed Nadeem (3-26), Haaris Khan (3-29) and Sarmad Bhatti (3-43).

Pershore’s impressive 292-6 at Penkridge was built around 74 from Adam Wiffen, 49 from Jon Hancock, 48 from Chris Ridings and 46no from Charlie Norton.

A lacklustre bowling effort from Penkridge was followed by a disappointing show with the bat as they crumbled to 134 all out.

Rana Hassan top scored with 41 but Charlie Cross took 5-33 and Taylor Pugh took 3-48 to lift Pershore into contention for promotion should there be a slip-up by the top two who remain well clear of the rest of the field.

Old Elizabethans were restricted to 146 all out and Sutton Coldfield were well placed on 51-2 in the ninth over of their reply when the game was halted due to rain.
