MARTLEY pressed home their credentials for the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division Two title with an 11-run win over Malvern.

After the disappointment of Rushwick failing to appear to play WCB Seniors Martley put together a convincing 131-1 before restricting their town opponents to 120-4.

They improved their runs-to-wickets average two points ahead of Worcester Nomads C and West Malvern who meet in the final week’s game.

James Ganderton (25 not out) and Ian Flower (26no) both retired by the seventh over after some varied bowling from Malvern.

They failed to reach the accuracy of their previous game and 31 were conceded in extras.

Peter Gardner (13) Simon van Tongeren (22no) and Martin Sweet (14no) all cashed in and set a daunting task.

Malvern have not passed the 100 mark this season but on this final occasion got close to the villagers' total.

Anthony Arnold (21), Jeremy Pilgrim (14), Lewis Hill (19) and Tom Fairclough (21) all made solid contributions but managed to get out at the wrong time.

They too were gifted 38 in extras including 17 in leg byes.

But Martley won through and wait as spectators for the final battle.
