MARTLEY and West Malvern recorded wins in the opening round of Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division Two matches.

Old Vigornians (104 all out) lost to West Malvern (105-3) on the final ball at the Royal Grammar School.

The Worcester side began confidently as Oz Fiaz (28) and Chris Drew (13) laid a platform with 46 runs for the first wicket.

James Bader (18) looked in form until he missed a straight ball.

With Fiaz retired, wickets fell steadily and OVs failed to take advantage of the good start.

In their final over they lost two wickets, including the returning Fiaz for only five more runs as Rowan Dakin took 2-25.

West started poorly but accelerated as their innings progressed.

Having lost Kevin Gilbert second ball, they struggled to 30-2 after six overs.

Will Jones and Pete O’Connell took the game on, needing more than 12-an-over.

Fiaz bowled an over for 15 but Jones' retirement left the lower order exposed.

Ben Tanner scored 10 quick runs, leaving West needing 18 to win from the final over.

However, O'Connell (25 retired), Jones (31no) and Dakin saw the villagers home with three runs coming off the final ball.

Martley (120-4) beat Rushwick (54-4) by 66 runs after posting a decent score thanks to Ian Flower (53 not out) and James Ganderton (47no).

A golden duck from Pat Bibby gave Rushwick early optimism and Matt Champion took 2-28 to dismiss the lower order but Flower and Ganderton struck 36 from the final two overs.

From 26-4 after six overs Rushwick were always going to struggle in reply.
