WORCESTER Nomads A thrashed their B team to retain the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division One title.

Nomads A (144-4) beat Nomads B (47 all out) by 97 runs with 5.4 overs left as the final game between the two unbeaten sides from Bransford turned out to be a one-sided affair.

Nomads B started positively with opening bowlers Tareq Jamil and Andy Leach restricting the A side to 28 from the first four overs.

Joe Laugher (17) was tentative and Sam Roberts (28) also had problems with Jamil’s pace.

But the change bowlers were an easier proposition as the slow flighted deliveries of Ollie Scurry were dispatched with gusto by the new batsmen for 55 off three overs.

Wides and no-balls contributed 35 towards the challenging total of 144 with Pat O’Driscoll (28 not out) and Tom Mills (30no) providing the action from the bat.

Rich Henry’s left-arm pace destroyed the B side’s hopes in two overs as he bowled both their openers for 12 runs.

Roberts took 2-7 and indecision led to run-outs.

Both sides are through to the county finals nights on Sunday when Hagley represent the Kinver league and Bredon or Dumbleton look likely to qualify from the Evesham division.

In Worcester Division Two, West Malvern triumphed over Malvern by five wickets.

Malvern (82 all out) lost to West Malvern (86-1) with seven balls left.

Although the match went into West’s 11th over, the result was determined from the eighth over of the Malvern innings.

They lost their third wicket at 72 and then failed to progress.

Steve Lake was top scorer with 28 and Anthony Arnold chipped in with 15.

Both were undone by Pete O’Connell bowling them as he ended with 2-7.

Will Jones returned 2-11 with 10 wides.

West set about their response and, despite the run-out of Kevin Gilbert, Joe Bird (27no), Jones (19no) and a generous helping of wides helped the villagers home.

The finals night begins at 6.30pm on Sunday at Royal Grammar School Worcester sports hall.
