WORCESTERSHIRE sides Ombersley and Kidderminster Victoria both won as they maintained top-five positions in the Birmingham and District Cricket League Premier Division.

A weakened Wolverhampton side struggled to 126 all out on a difficult wicket at Ombersley with James Hammond (32) the only batsman to break 20.

Chris Harwood (3-25) was the pick of the Ombersley attack but the hosts made heavy weather of their reply after Freddie Wynn (54 not out) and Liam Gwynne (28) opened with 47 for the first wicket.

They eventually ran out winners by four wickets but Wolverhampton must have rued a middle-order collapse, which saw them fold from 57-1 to 102-8.

Kidderminster continued their quest for a full house of 50-over victories with a 94-run win over 2014 champions West Bromwich Dartmouth at Sandwell Park.

A third-wicket stand of 132 between former Worcestershire players Matt Pardoe (137) and Neil Pinner (60), followed by 82 for the fourth between the former and Michael Hill (67), paved the way for a final total of 345-8.

Brinder Phagura claimed 3-47 and Aqsad Ali 3-91 for Dartmouth.

In reply, the Dartmouth innings was interrupted after 30 overs with the home side on 156-3 and on resumption a revised target of 309 saw them dismissed for 215 with Phagura top-scoring on 59.

Brockhampton’s emphatic 183-run win over Barnt Green breathed new life into their survival campaign and six points now cover the bottom three.

Danny Irvine (91), Ian Bullock (55no), Adam Hewlett (41) and Chris Boroughs (40no) helped Brockhampton to 263-6 in 50 overs.

In reply, Green collapsed to 77 all out in pursuit of a revised target of 260 after two overs were lost to rain.

Nick Powell (3-7) and Callum Stewart (3-11) ripped out the middle order and tail as Green lost their last six wickets for seven runs. Leamington remained in the Division One promotion race thanks to a hard-fought two-wicket win against Barnards Green, who were dismissed for 188.

Andrew Curtis (59) hit a half-century for the Malvern side but spinners Neil Smith (3-27) and Mark Ashcroft (3-51) kept a tight rein on things for Leamington, who were made to fight hard for their win by Josh Tongue (3-38).

David Bailey (36), Grant Thornton (34) and Jamie Marsh (33) chipped in with vital runs.

A superb unbeaten 170 from Worcestershire's Alexei Kervezee eased Bromsgrove to 299-7 against Old Hill, who responded well with 166 all out.

Kervezee faced 118 balls and hit 17 fours and four sixes.

Mark Evenson took 3-18 as Old Hill crashed to 100-8 before tail-enders Nigel Davenport and Tommy Cox both hit 33 to see their side to two batting points, which may yet prove vital in the end-of-season run-in.

Although Division Two leaders Bridgnorth crashed to a 114-run defeat to Sutton Coldfield, they became the first side in any of the divisions to secure promotion after third-placed Penkridge were beaten at bottom club Eastnor by eight wickets.

Penkridge struggled to 122-6 before an unbroken stand of 86 between Attiq Chishti (62no) and Aamir Manzoor (54no) saw them to 208-6.

Atiq Ur Rehman took 3-24 for the Herefordshire club and he was undefeated on 37 when the game ended prematurely with Eastnor on 104-2 from 23 overs.

The DLS par score at the time was 85 so Eastnor gained a valuable victory but they will need to win all their remaining games to stand any chance of survival.

Tarandeep Toor (47) and Matthew Clements (44) saw Coventry and NW to 216-7 against Old Elizabethans, who were dismissed for 136 in reply.

Occasional left-arm spinner Jonathan Miles took 4-35 against his former club and Coventry could yet clinch third place if the sides above them continue to falter.

An unbeaten 33 from Ian Cottrill was the only bright spot for Worcester, who crashed to 102 all out against promotion-chasing C & R Hawks in Division Three.

Johar Ahmed took 5-34 before an unbeaten 34 from Mubeen Rashid took Hawks within touching distance of Division Two.

Astwood Bank boosted their survival hopes with a narrow two-wicket win over fellow strugglers Streetly in a low-scoring match.

Neil Curtis hit 62 in a Streetly total of 108 with Jon Summers taking 4-27 and Michael Desmond 3-34, including a hat-trick.

In reply, Tom Pedley’s 38 held the Bank innings together after they slumped from 48 without loss to 101-8.
