BARNARDS Green reached the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League T20 Challenge Cup final at Bromsgrove.

They beat higher-ranked Shrewsbury in the semis but fell just four runs short against Sutton Coldfield in the final.

Green restricted Shrewsbury to 114 all out, Jack Mackintosh (3-22) removing the top three.

Good fielding was epitomised by run-outs from Stewart Hepburn and Jon Dovey.

Dovey (3-20) demolished the tail with the final three wickets as Shrewsbury folded from 88-5.

In reply, Green reached 36 in the fourth over before Andy Ford (5) was caught behind.

George Rhodes (52) brought up the half-century in the fifth over and put on nearly 50 with Alex Hepburn (14 not out).

Andrew Curtis (25no) ensured Green reached their target in the 13th over.

Sutton beat Berkswell but Green lost Rhodes, Alex Hepburn and Ash Brewer for the final due to travel commitments.

Sutton were bowled out for 132 in the 17th over, with Dovey taking two early wickets and another two run-outs contributing.

After a fine effort from Ryan Tongue (42), Dovey needed four off the last ball to but was caught to leave Green on 128-7.
