A PROMISING Malvern cricketer has been selected in the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) women’s young cricketers programme for the second year running.

Barnards Green player Georgia Hennessy, 18, is among nine of the country’s brightest prospects to be given the chance to train at Lord’s throughout 2015.

She will be under the tutelage of Lancashire women’s and girls’ development officer Jen Laycock and former England international Jan Godman.

Hennessy, who has represented England under 19s, starts her second year on the scheme and will be available to turn out for the MCC women.

The Warwickshire player said: “I was on the programme last year and it was brilliant, so I’m pleased to be on it again.

“International cricket is the ultimate aim for me and being selected for training programmes like this can only help me in trying to achieve that.”

Laycock said: “The scheme is a great way for talented girls, like Georgia, to develop their games alongside other important life skills.”

Graduates from the programme include England women’s regulars Heather Knight, Sarah Taylor and Danni Wyatt.
